About the "Meet the Bunkers" pilot
All of the Norman Lear produced comedies, such as Dead the Family, its spinoffs Maude, The Jeffersons, as well as One Day at a Time would help lead the way in presenting programming which catered to the tastes and social mores of the audience that they were seeking, presenting topics that had never before been discussed on superior-time sitcom TV.
The sitcom that changed the face of American television premiered on January 12, 1971, with the last of trio pilot episodes recorded between 1968 and 1970 during which time the place underwent deuce near-complete casting overhauls and three statute title changes. Written by series co-producer Norman Edward Lear, "Sports meeting the Bunkers" ill-used the occasion of Archie and Edith Dugout's wedding anniversary to introduce the main characters and rapidly establish both the humour and tenor of all the episodes to come. Peculiarly worth noting in this inauguration episode is Jean Stapleton's portraiture of Edith, who comes dispatch A a lot less foolish and a mickle more sarcastic than she would in upcoming episodes. Piece "Meet the Bunkers" seems within reason tame when seen today, IT packed enough of a wallop second in 1971 for CBS to issue a disavowal at the beginning of the program, in which the net lauded All in the Family for its courage and daring and at the same time begged the viewers' pardon for those qualities.
Outline
In the series' premiere, Mike and Gloria plan a surprise political party to celebrate Archie and Edith's 22nd anniversary. IT quickly turns into a cheering match 'tween conservative Archie and the liberal "Meathead" on virtually all topic.
Patch summary
Though virtually plotless, the installment is jam-jammed with incident: It's Edith and Archie Bunker's 22nd wedding day of remembrance and their girl Gloria and her husband Microphone are planning a storm Sunday brunch. Edith is pleasantly surprised, nonetheless, Archie's "no big deal" attitude lead Archie and Mike into a heated argument over "racial profiling", and a uncounted of other topics, ranging from Archie's prejudices, problems with the nation's government and Mike's atheism. Edith tries to hang back a recalcitrant Archie to church, Gloria and Microphone are so hot for one another that they can barely wait until they puzzle out to the sleeping room, and Lionel Jefferson (Microphone Evans) uses broad African-American stereotypes to subtly needle the reactionary Archie.
